Kerry & Paul Engagement - Portsmouth Wedding Photographer - Spinnaker Tower

"We absolutely love the photos, these are really fantastic and brilliant - thank you so much. We have only had great feedback from everyone that we have shown. I have used some of the images as part of our wedding invites."

Really looking forward to Kerry & Paul's wedding in Gunwharf Quays today, Portsmouth. What an awesome couple they make! A throwback to February on a chilly winter's Sunday morning when we met up at Spinnaker Tower to go over their wedding plans, we decided to double up with an Engagement Session too! What an awesome day it was and capturing moments with a couple who are just so wonderful together!

We started off the session at the landmark tower in the Portsmouth skyline and fortunate to have the whole place to ourselves before it opened to the public. It's such a cool and interesting venue to photograph in and we had so much fun taking photos in essentially a big glass box. The view from the top is amazing and seeing the whole city below is really fascinating. I love the fact they just have their funky socks on when they stand on the glass (above) and makes a lovely unique shot of the two.

Afterwards, we headed into Gunwharf Quays which is where Spinnaker Tower is situated in and spent the morning having a chat and taking some goofy photos. I love how laid back they are as a couple and so easy to get on with. I know their wedding is going to pretty cool today! When couples say they don't look very good on camera or that they're not photogenic - it's pretty safe to say that Kerry & Paul are rocking their Engagement Session and I'm sure they'll be rocking their wedding too!

Can't wait to document their wedding today at Spinnaker Tower. It's going to be awesome and certainly one-of-a-kind!

Going Full-Time Freelance with my Business

So I have a BIG announcement to make... I'm excited to say that I have gone full-time with my business Nisha Haq Photography as of today and being a full-time self-employed freelancer! Writing this blog post on my first day of running my business full-time feels pretty surreal and amazing and I'm so happy to share this fantastic news with you! EEEEK!

Some of you may know I've been working full-time as a graphic designer/marketing officer at Grange Park Opera for the past year with often 40+ hours a week at the day job and 20-40+ a week freelancing and it's been a challenging year but certainly very rewarding too. This past year has been an amazing roller coaster and I've had the wonderful opportunity of working with such amazing clients and experiencing the most beautiful weddings, engagements & photoshoots along the way. I hadn't realised how much my business has really grown over the past 12 months and I am so fortunate to have so many brilliant people supporting me (particularly my partner, Rob!) and such lovely and understanding clients too.

Having celebrated my second year business anniversary, winning IPSE Aspire Freelancer of the Year Award last month, turning 24 in May and most recently last week found that I have been shortlisted as a Semi-Finalist in the Hampshire Venus Awards for Customer Service has given me the confidence boost to make my full-time passion a full-time business. Although I had announced on stage that I'd be going full-time after being awarded aspiring freelancer on National Freelancers Day, I hadn't realised just how soon I would be making the leap to full-time self-employment!

With a portfolio that I've built over the past 3-4 years working for other companies in design, marketing and communications whilst building my own photography business these past 2 years has taught me so many invaluable skills and experiences and looking to continuously developing my portfolio and refining my skills. I'm excited about and all the fabulous ideas and things I've got to share with you all over the coming months.

Being full-time with Nisha Haq Photography will allow me to:
  • Dedicate more time to each client
  • Quicker turnaround times for weddings & shoots
  • More flexibility for arranging shoots, meetings during the week
  • Weekday hours for correspondence and availability
  • Develop more commercial work & network with businesses
  • More opportunities for more shoots & more services (e.g. boudoir, graphic design)
  • More blogging on tips, inspiration and advice (horray!)
  • A refreshed, energised and happy business woman & photographer!
Watch this space for some exciting new projects & services I'll be developing over the months such as boudoir photography, commercial photographywebsite & design packages as well as event & family photography and of course more fabulous and epic weddingsengagements and styled shoots too!

I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me get to where I am today especially all my wonderfully amazing clients. To have found the confidence to be a full-time freelancer and be fully self-dependent is a liberating and exciting prospect. I've found the past few months have taught me... if you don't try, you'll never know! I'm very excited about this new chapter and look forward to you being a part of this exciting new venture.

UK Freelancer of the Year 2017 Award Winner

“Nisha bowled us over with her enthusiasm for freelancing and her passion for her work shone through.”
- James Gribben, a member of the judging panel

Excited to announce I’ve been awarded IPSE UK Freelancer of the Year Aspire 2017! To be regarded amongst so many amazing freelancers across the country is incredible. The Aspire award ‘recognises the up and coming talent amongst the youngest, most ambitious freelancers. They are 23 and under and are running their own businesses like seasoned professionals.’ I’m still buzzing from last week’s award ceremony in London. It’s such a fantastic honour to be recognised nationally.

The past few weeks have been a little crazy. Three big milestones have happened: being crowned Britain’s best freelancer, turning 24 and celebrating my 2 year business anniversary. Wow it’s been a whirlwind!

On June 8, I was invited to attend National Freelancers Day organised by IPSE (Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed) at the swanky Kings Place in London where the Freelancer awards ceremony would also be held in the evening. After Judging Day in April, and meeting so many amazing freelancers across the country who were shortlisted, I was excited to see the familiar faces as well as the wonderful IPSE team. The day of workshops, networking and guest speakers were great. I also had the chance to catch up with 2015 Aspire finalist, Craig McDougall from Broken Physics Productions who I’ve had the pleasure of working on a few commissions with.

Fabulous host for the evening, Ellie Taylor
For the 4th annual IPSE Freelancer of the Year Awards – ‘a celebration of the brightest and most talented freelancers in the UK’, we had the wonderful pleasure of comedian Ellie Taylor hosting the show. She was incredibly funny and my new fave female comedian after Thursday’s performance! Keynote speaker, Carl Camden, former CEO of Kelly Services, a Fortune 500 company gave an empowering speech about what it means to be a freelancer. What most resonated with me was how he mentioned that work should fit around your life and not the other way around. It’s certainly something to strive towards and embody.

The first three award categories were announced: Katy Carlisle’s Freelance Folk was crowned IPSE’s Ambassador of the Year, Work.Life in Camden was awarded the Co-working Space of the Year and Middlesex the University Partner of the Year Award. Melissa Holloway, a copywriter based in London, and business coach and strategist Chichi Eruchalu finished as runners up in the Inspire category.

My shocked face before being awarded by IPSE Chairman, James Collings
(L-R) Abigail & Chloe Baldwin (Buttercrumble - graphic design), Charlotte Haldane (Hair & Make up artist),  myself (Nisha Haq Photography), Carl Lonsdale (Spruce My - Interior Specialist), Adam Smith (HSQ Productions - Video & Photography)
It was all very exciting and then it reached the Aspire category for freelancers aged 23 and under. My heart was beating out of my chest and I can remember telling myself to keep it cool! All of a sudden Ellie Taylor announced my name and I was in complete shock. I couldn’t believe I won Freelancer of the Year! I was over the moon; I honestly didn’t think I’d win. I was asked to say a few words and all I could remember was stuttering how amazing it felt and that I did feel good enough for this award and how I feel so much more confident to take my business to the next level. This was certainly one of the best experiences I’ve had this year! The trophy is so beautifully designed and pink – it’s got a permanent home on my mantelpiece. The prize includes £3,000 investment, mentoring sessions with industry leaders and professional memberships to help my business grow.

Subsequently, I was on wonderful high from all the buzz and felicitations from friends and strangers; it was a surreal experience. Professional photographs were taken, congratulatory handshakes and cheek kisses were given, glasses of wine & bubbly were drunken… and the evening was just getting started. It was fantastic catching up with Luke Nicholson from Improve Your Accent, winner of the Inspire Freelancer of the Year 2017 award for established freelancers, 24 and over. Such a worthy winner and one of the kindest people I’ve met. His business is so unique offering non-native English speakers how to communicate more clearly.

After a drinks reception, a group of us headed to the pub for more merry drinks, a perfect way to end the night. I was really lucky to have my partner, Rob join me for the awards and sharing this amazing moment in my career with him. He’s been so incredibly supportive throughout my business. I didn’t get a chance to do a mini ‘Oscars’ speech on stage, as I was too shocked to think properly, so I’ll mention it here… ‘For all the late nights working, all the times you’ve given me a hug when I’ve been stressed or doubted myself. For the daily motivation and inspiration you give me to stay strong and keep going. I really couldn’t have done this without you... Thank you Rob!’. :D

Rob (his beard) and me :)
To everyone who helped organised the IPSE Awards ceremony (special shout outs to Claire Barrance, IPSE Events Manager and Tom Hayward, Senior Press & PR Officer), the fabulous judges, James Gribben (Head of Press, IPSE), Emmeline Pidgen (2016 Inspire winner and amazing illustrator), Vicki Owen (Small Business Editor at The Mail on Sunday) and Caroline Morgan (IPSE Board Member) for choosing me, Ed Telling Photography for these awesome photographs to remember the night, Dewsign for their awesome creative direction for this awards and to all the 2017 finalists and freelancers who inspire me, thank you, it was a truly unforgettable experience!

Managed to get a quick photo with these lovely ladies who produce brilliant design work. Felling so inspired standing next to them! Mandy Barker from Sail Creative and Buttercrumble.

"Recognising you are good enough and having a positive mindset can feel like the hardest thing in the world sometimes especially as a creative freelancer but if you never try and put yourself out there... you'll never know what spectacular things could happen!"

Lillie & Rob Engagement - Hampshire Wedding Photographer - Winchester

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love the photos you are so clever! We had so much fun! I can't believe Rob, he really surprised me!"

I am so happy to share these beautifully sunny images from Lillie & Rob's awesome Engagement Session from last month in the stunning English countryside near Winchester. They're such a lovely and warm couple that it was just laughter and smiles all round. It was a blessing in disguise that we had postponed the couples shoot 3 times until we found a sunny day to shoot in the glorious countryside and we happen to have chosen the hottest, sunniest day of the year! Temperatures were hitting 25°C which could only mean for a fabulous photo shoot! Lillie had mentioned there was a rapeseed field nearby her house and I got super excited to photograph my first photoshoot in one. It's been on my bucket list to photograph in the gorgeous golden field of flowers (it makes me soooo happy seeing these fields in the countryside when I'm out for a drive - golden yellow is my second favourite colour) so I was ecstatic that everything came together so perfectly with the weather, season and fabulous couple! At the end of the shoot I was covered head to toe in yellow pollen despite having hayfever, but it was so worth it nailing these shots!

I love Lillie's comment above about how her fiancé Rob came out of his shell and went for it when it came to having his photograph taken. They were such a great laugh and love seeing couples feel comfortable and get a bit goofy with me too. It's so lovely to see couples open up and be themselves in front of the camera (it's all part of the fabulous fun experience). This is why I love being a photographer!

Can't wait until Lillie & Rob's wedding in just 4 days time at the Sandford Springs Golf Club. It's going to be marvellous!

Grace & James Engagement GIFs, Romsey - Hampshire Wedding Photographer

So today's the day this awesome, fun, beautiful couple get married at The Bell Inn, New Forest. Very excited to document their special day. It's been just over a year since we first met and it's been amazing being on their journey to their wedding... from their pre-consultation, Engagement Session, venue meet and now their big day!! This is why I love being a wedding photographer. :D

These GIFs were made as a bit of fun from their epic Engagement Session back in July 2016 in some gorgeous golden fields where Grace & James take their adorable Dachshund, Dexter for walks. I've thought I'd bring along my tripod to create some GIFs and the results are really cool! It's like making a mini-movie.

Just a few hours now until Grace & James exchange their vows and I can't wait to capture their day. It's going to be a wonderful day! If they're able to make images like this on their couples shoot, I can only imagine their wedding is going to be epic too.

Thank you Grace & James. Some lovely words after their photoshoot:"Wow wow wow!!! How wonderful do they look!! Thank you so much, you are a superstar for making us look so good! We are so happy with them and can't wait to share them with everyone this makes us so excited for the big day. We have also been recommending you to friends. Your talent will go far! Thank you so much for these brilliant photos."

Find out more about Engagement Sessions, Signing Books and GIFs:

They also received a gorgeous bespoke Signing Book from their Engagement Session which I personally design. They selected up to 20 awesome photos which comes with alternate lined pages for wedding guests to write lovely messages on the day. It's a beautiful linen bound hardback layflat signing book including personalised name and date on the cover where there's a range of linen covers to suit wedding day decor.

Loved their reaction when they received their Signing Book: "Sooo excited to have received our guest book for the wedding. Love it so much, thank you!"
